The Church at Worship (Lutheran Liturgy) This class will engage and explore the life of the church at worship-looking historically and theologically at the practices of worship. It will also include a practical component. This course meets the requirements for the Order of St Stephen, Deacon program and is open to anyone who wants to deepen their understanding and appreciation of worship practices in the Lutheran Church.
Other Course Descriptions: THE MOST IMPORTANT BOOK, EVER THE BOOK YOU ALWAYS MEANT TO READ - The Old Testament Reinvigorate your faith as you discover the Old Testament roots of Christianity. Learn about intimacies with God (in Psalms) and recommended ways for dealing with others in the first ever psychology book (Proverbs). Understand what St. Paul really meant when he constantly referred to "The Law" by studying what the law actually said. Be awed by God's plan as you read details of Messianic prophecy later fulfilled. Finish the course with a new confidence that you now know the essential parts of the Old Testament. [Full Disclosure: This course is not for slackers or those merely seeking entertainment.] HISTORY Review the history of the Christian Church from the first century to present day. This course is presented in two parts, the first covers up to 1483, just before the Reformation. Part II covers from the reformation to the present day. HOSPITAL VISITATION MINISTRY Learn your way around a hospital visit. This course, rooted in the Bible, teaches what the scriptures have to say regarding healing, and words of comfort. You will also learn the practical aspects of making hospital visits including what you need to know about interacting as a member of a patient's care team and HIPPA. Lutheran Theology - What did Martin Luther have to say? Students will examine theology through the writings of Martin Luther. This course meets the requirements for those in the academic program of the Order of Saint Stephen and is also a great continuing education course for deacons.
